Biography
Michael Schultz is a founding partner Michael Schultz Law Firm. Named one of the top 40 workers’ compensation attorneys in Minnesota, this is his 27th consecutive year on the Minnesota Super Lawyers list.
Mr. Schultz is an experienced litigator and frequent lecturer in the areas of Minnesota workers’ compensation and personal injury law. He represents individuals throughout Minnesota with work, automobile, and disability claims, and his clients include everyone from migrant workers to professional athletes like Minnesota Vikings favorites Chuck Foreman, Randall McDaniel, Mike Morris, and Paul Krause.

Significant Minnesota Supreme Court cases in which Michael G. Schultz appears as counsel:
- Correa v. Waymouth Farms, Inc., 664 N.W.2d 324 (Minn. 2003) – Schultz represented Fernando Correa. The Supreme Court affirmed the WCCA’s award of temporary total disability benefits despite Correa’s undocumented immigration status.
- Dykhoff v. Xcel Energy, 840 N.W.2d 821 (Minn. 2013) – Schultz represented Toni Dykhoff. The Supreme Court reversed the WCCA and reinstated the compensation judge’s denial of benefits.
- Shire v. Rosemount, Inc., 875 N.W.2d 289 (Minn. 2016) – Schultz represented Ali Shire. The case concerned whether an employer-sponsored recreational/recognition event was a “voluntary recreational program” under Minnesota workers’ compensation law.
- Bierbach v. Digger’s Polaris, 965 N.W.2d 281 (Minn. 2021) Schultz represented Daniel Bierbach. The Supreme Court addressed whether federal law preempted Minnesota workers’ compensation reimbursement for medical cannabis and held that the federal Controlled Substances Act preempted the compensation order requiring reimbursement.
